Bio

Leah Brieva is an artist returning home. Raised by her mother in Evanston, IL alongside 6 siblings, his work is inspired by memory, life changes, and found affirmations. His drawings and paintings are delicately rendered, carefully composed arrangements of self, still life, and secret code. Recurring symbols, numbers, and words create an enigmatic language between works that explore themes of romance, queer identity, reassurance, and superstition. Most of all, the work is informed by her idiosyncrasies and experiences as a neurodivergent lesbian who loves to yearn. He approaches his drawings and paintings as part of a larger diary and collection of personal narratives.

She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art and has been awarded the Fred & Joanna Lazarus Scholarship, the Creative Vision Award, the DaVinci Award, and the Louise Goffe Memorial Scholarship. She has exhibited in Evanston, IL; Baltimore, MD; and Brooklyn, NY. If you’d like to get in contact, the artist can be reached at leahbrieva@gmail.com
