Bio
Leah Brieva is an artist returning home. Raised by her mother in Evanston, IL alongside 6 siblings, his work engages with the complexities of family, neurodivergency, romance, self, and navigation of queer identity as a person of color. He approaches his drawings and paintings as part of a larger diary and collection of personal narratives. These pieces consist of delicately rendered, carefully composed arrangements focused on self-portraiture and the modern still life. Brieva delights in continuing threads of personal iconography throughout her body of work, this hidden language acting as easter eggs for the audience to attempt to decipher. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art and has been awarded the Fred & Joanna Lazarus Scholarship, the Creative Vision Award, the DaVinci Award, and the Louise Goffe Memorial Scholarship. She has exhibited in Evanston, IL; Baltimore, MD; and Brooklyn, NY. If you’d like to get in contact, the artist can be reached at leahbrieva@gmail.com
